Volunteer Ranger Service
Volunteers play a vital role in all aspects of our Ranger Services work.
There are many different ways for people to become involved in volunteering for the Ranger Service. We offer a range of formal and informal opportunities tailored to meet the individual needs and availability of each volunteer.
The majority of our volunteers get involved with practical tasks. This work varies from season to season and involves using a variety of different tools, machinery and techniques. Some examples of practical tasks are listed below:
- Dry stone walling
- Pond clearance
- Fence repair
- Path installation
- Grass cutting
- Hedgecutting/hedge laying
- Woodland creation and management
- Habitat creation and management
As well as practical volunteer tasks we also require volunteers to carry out a variety of non-practical activities, including:
-
Site patrolling/monitoring
- Litter picking
- Visitor Surveying
- Wildlife Surveying
- Applying for funding
- Helping with events
- Leading guided walks
- Providing onsite information
In order to ensure that we can tailor our opportunities to meet the needs of each individual volunteer we ask all potential volunteers to come in for a brief 15 minute chat with one of the Rangers before starting volunteering. This would usually take place at Beacon Country Park between 9am-4pm Mon-Fri but special arrangements can be made if required. To arrange to come in for a chat please contact us via beacon.park@westlancs.gov.uk or by phoning 01695 622794.
Be a friend of the park
Some of our sites have active 'friends of the park' groups. Working in partnership with our West Lancs Ranger Service, all friends have the chance to become actively involved in the management of the parks. You could use your own site maintenance skills, help to plan and publicise events or even be the Rangers eyes and ears when you use the park.
If you are interested in joining or creating a 'friends group' please contact us via beacon.park@westlancs.gov.uk
