Update on recovery operation following New Year's Day floods
The Council has coordinated with partner agencies and continued its recovery response to the floods that occurred in several parts of the Borough on New Year's Day, and again more recently in parts of Ormskirk.
We have carried out a clean-up operation in the Halsall Lane area of Ormskirk and our Clean and Green Team have helped residents to remove almost 10 tonnes of flood damaged items.
We have also cleared waste scattered by the floods and relocated displaced bins to their correct addresses. Our pest control teams are also attending the site to assess and carry out any proactive treatments, whilst other partner agencies such as the Environment Agency, have been present in the community to provide additional support.
We continue to support a small number of residents with accommodation and advice in the aftermath of the New Year's Day flooding and Lancashire County Council (LCC) adult social care are supporting any vulnerable residents.
The Council was notified on Sunday (January 5) evening that further flooding had occurred in Halsall Lane. Officers and councillors attended the site with LCC and emergency response partners assisting with road closure and building temporary sandbag flood defences for people's properties, with sandbags provided by LCC.
While flooding on the road was evident, we are not currently aware that any property was flooded internally or that any resident was displaced by the incident.
Councillor Gareth Dowling, Deputy Leader and lead member for Community Safety and Planning, said: "Our teams have been in constant contact with those affected by the flooding and I extend my thanks to those officers who have worked hard to support our community.
"Like other elected members, I have visited the area over the last few days and can fully appreciate the devastation and heartbreak this has caused to those who have seen their homes and possessions ruined by floodwater.
"I would like to reassure residents that this event and its causes will remain at the top of our agenda as we continue to monitor the immediate needs of the community and assist the County Council in their investigation. We will continue to push for Lancashire County Council to implement the works required to resolve the flooding issues in the Halsall Lane area."
