Planning approved for Tawd Valley Development Maryvale housing scheme
- 29 homes to be arranged around the existing St. Mary Queen of Apostles Church
- Mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses for open market sale and shared ownership
- Development will include new tree planting and the addition of a wildflower meadow
Planning has been approved for a new housing project, which will see 29 high quality, affordable homes built in Skelmersdale.
West Lancashire Council-owned Tawd Valley Developments (TVD) will lead the project, with the low-rise family homes accessed via the existing road named Maryvale off Toby Island roundabout.
The development is arranged around the existing St. Mary Queen of Apostles Church and will be a variety of two, three and four-bedroom houses suitable for open market sale and shared ownership.
All properties have private areas for parking with secured private gardens and landscaped areas.
This scheme, which is close to the town centre and amenities, also aims to respect its current surroundings. This is through the retention of existing trees and shrubs alongside a significant amount of new tree planting and the addition of a wildflower meadow, hedge planting and domestic ornamental planting will benefit wildlife and create new native species.
Each home is expected to have enhanced insulation and air tightness of fabric to promote energy efficiency. The properties will contribute significantly to the Borough’s housing offering while also supporting the needs of the council’s housing strategy.
Councillor Nicola Pryce-Roberts, West Lancashire Borough Council’s lead member for Housing said: "I am pleased to see the approval of the plans for the Maryvale housing scheme; this scheme builds on the success we have had in building much needed affordable housing in West Lancashire.
"The scheme includes both green space and parking for residents. We will continue to work with TVD to create affordable and energy-efficient homes across the borough and I very much look forward to continuing to welcome families into their new homes when the Maryvale scheme is complete."
Mark Kitts, managing director of TVD, says the Maryvale scheme is a “major landmark” for the business.
He said: “Following the approval of our shared ownership scheme at Becconsall Lane, Hesketh Bank the scheme at Maryvale will mark our second venture this year, delivering shared ownership homes on behalf of West Lancashire Borough Council providing 11 new energy efficient affordable homes on this basis. “
“Furthermore, we are delighted to be able to offer 18 of these incredible new homes for market sale, marking our first venture into this area of housing provision which is a major landmark for the business”.
