Ormskirk's Medieval Festival - a Eurovision Battle Royale!
- Royal Tournament to celebrate Eurovision and the Coronation
- Chance to experience a variety of medieval-themed activities
- Event this weekend 13 & 14 May
Experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of West Lancashire 900 years ago, as living history reenactors Historia Normannis take you on a journey back through time at the fantastic Ormskirk Medieval Festival at Coronation Park.
The FREE two-day event returns on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May with 12th century re-enactment group Historia Normannis taking visitors on a journey through time to experience everyday life in Norman England.
Over the weekend, the park will host a variety of medieval-themed activities, with heroic battles, archery and cooking demonstrations of food prepared in traditional Norman ways. Visitors can try on armour, take a closer look at the weapons and how they’re made or even try their hand at archery. There will also be displays of crafts and other medieval-themed activities and stalls.
The event will feature a special Royal Tournament - a celebration of this year's Eurovision Song Contest and the Coronation of King Charles III, where noble warriors representing European countries will do battle against each other to mark the Coronation of his Royal Highness Henry III. Judges will be scoring each country's style and pizzazz during battle - let's hope the knights 'Flying the Flag' for the United Kingdom do better than 'Nul Points'!
Councillor Gareth Dowling, Deputy Leader of the Council and portfolio holder for events, said: "The Ormskirk Medieval Festival is always a fantastic weekend on the Borough's events calendar, with something for everyone to experience and enjoy.
"Having just celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III at Beacon Country Park this previous weekend, I'm delighted we are hosting yet another event that provides fantastic and accessible days out for our residents as well as showcasing the Borough to visitors."
Hungry crowds will be able to enjoy a range of modern-day refreshments and activities, with donkey rides, face painting, children’s rides and a giant bouncy castle.
And if you want even MORE Eurovision-themed entertainment, on Friday 12 May, the Moor Street Night Market returns for a Eurovision special with food from around the world and live music from Swing & Jazz singer Kayleigh O'Neill as well as lighting up the Clocktower in spectacular style once more.
The Ormskirk Medieval Festival has been organised by the West Lancashire Borough Council Parks and Countryside Service. The event runs from 11am to 5pm on both days.
(Some activities apart from the medieval displays and demonstrations may have an additional charge)
