Hundreds of new kitchens and bathroom set for council homes

• Over £6.3m to be invested
• Bathrooms and kitchens will be upgraded
• Other improvements also in the pipeline

West Lancashire Borough Council's Housing Investment Plan for the year 23/24 has been set.

In excess of £6.3m will be spent on upgrading council homes, including the delivery of 330 new kitchens and 289 new bathrooms over the next 12 to 18 months.

New windows, doors, roofs, heating and electrical upgrades will also be carried out at selected properties across the Borough.

As another key priority for the Council, there will also be environmental improvement works to open spaces in various locations across the area.   

Councillor Nicola Pryce-Roberts, portfolio holder for Housing Services, said:" I'm delighted that even with the difficult economic conditions, we will be able to deliver a programme of upgrades that will make real improvements to our tenants' day-to-day living experience.

"As a responsible local authority and social housing landlord, we take the living standards of our tenants seriously, so investing in and future-proofing our housing stock is a priority."

This past year has seen the Council deliver communal refurbishment programmes to 44 blocks of flats which included rewiring communal areas, redecoration and floor covering renewal.

A further major refurbishment to seven blocks of flats including external wall insulation has also taken place and windows and doors in 40 homes and 200 homes have received replacement roofs.
