Following West Lancashire Borough Council's annual meeting, Councillor Maureen Nixon has been appointed as the new Mayor of West Lancashire.
Mayor Nixon, who is the Labour and Co-operative member for Tanhouse and Skelmersdale Town Centre, will represent the Borough at civic events while raising money for her chosen charities and will be supported by her Consort, Mr Laughton Wilkinson.
Mayor Nixon said: "It is an honour to receive the role of Mayor and I am looking forward to representing our fantastic borough and championing the great place we live in.
"I am excited about the opportunities I will have to meet the incredible people, from all walks of life, who make West Lancashire such a special place. I will work hard to celebrate the outstanding work they do for the greater good of the Borough as well as supporting charities that have special meaning for me.
"My year as Mayor will give me a unique opportunity to help connect people from across the generations together, a cause that is very close to my heart."
The newly appointed Deputy Mayor of West Lancashire is Councillor Julian Finch, the Labour elected member for Skelmersdale South and his Deputy Mayoress is Mrs. Mary Finch.
The Mayor's chosen charities are West Lancs ARK, Age UK (Ormskirk) and Skelmersdale Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and best wishes to outgoing Mayor Councillor Mrs. Marilyn Westley for her dedicated service to West Lancashire over the past year.
