Council Supports The Liberty Centre to Strengthen Domestic Abuse Support Services

West Lancashire Borough Council enhances partnership with The Liberty Centre, a leading domestic abuse charity by granting funding to support people in the Borough.

The Liberty Centre offers comprehensive services to women, men, and children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse.

The Council provided £26,600 to The Liberty Centre from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, a programme that enables West Lancashire Borough Council to support communities and businesses.

This funding will support The Liberty Centre to further its mission of supporting individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, regardless of gender, and to continue its critical work within the community.

The funding has strengthened The Liberty Centre's financial stability and provided essential resources, allowing it to effectively maintain operations and expand its services.

At least 270 hours of direct counselling support will be provided, significantly enhancing the availability of critical mental health services for those affected by domestic abuse.

The Liberty Centre will also be able to expand its support and advice services to local organisations, including the police, local authority, and schools, on matters related to domestic abuse.

Finally, the funding has covered rent and service costs to ensure the charity focuses on delivering its core services without the added burden of operational costs.

Councillor Gareth Dowling, lead member for Planning and Community Safety and Deputy Leader at West Lancashire Borough Council said: "We are incredibly proud to support The Liberty Centre through this funding from the council and to continue our partnership working in supporting those impacted by domestic abuse.

"The work they do is essential to our community, providing a lifeline to individuals and families in crisis.

"By funding these key roles and covering essential costs, we are ensuring that The Liberty Centre can continue to offer its invaluable services and reach even more people in need of support.”

Lisa Larsen, Chief Executive Officer at The Liberty Centre said: "This funding is a huge support for The Liberty Centre. It allows us to strengthen our team, enhancing our ability to support all victims of domestic abuse.

"The support with rent and service costs ensures that we can continue to provide a safe space for our clients. We are grateful to the council for this funding for this critical support, which will help us make a lasting difference in the lives of many.”

A total of 25 community projects will receive funding to empower our communities, supporting the Borough's key priorities and delivering services and facilities for residents across West Lancashire with funding coming from the Council’s £1.2million Communities and Place investment, and £1.3m investment from the Community Infrastructure Levy. When combined, this represents among the largest ever investments in community projects in West Lancashire by the borough council.
