Council launches 'Green Tourism' scheme for local businesses

  • Grants will help businesses become more sustainable
  • Green agenda 'key priority' for the Borough
  • Webinar on 15 June for those wanting to find out more

If you run a business in the retail, leisure, hospitality, tourism, or accommodation sectors and want help to become a 'Greener' business then we want to hear from you.

Following the Council's success in delivering £41 million in grants to local businesses affected by coronavirus, we are delighted to launch the 'Green Tourism' scheme.  The scheme is being funded by Central Government's Additional Restrictions grant funds and will help eligible businesses become more environmentally sustainable, as they continue to recover from the pandemic. 

The scheme is open now and will run up to the 31 March 2023 and can support up to 100 eligible West Lancashire businesses with a year's FREE membership.

If your business signs up, Green Tourism can help you:

  • Become more environmentally sustainable and energy efficient
  • Earn the internationally recognised Green Tourism Award

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: "I am really pleased the Council is able to continue to support businesses as we come out of the pandemic after two extremely challenging years.

"A key priority in our vision for West Lancashire is to encourage local businesses to embrace the Green Agenda. If you run an eligible business, please take up this free support through Green Tourism to help you earn recognition for becoming more sustainable for the future."

Once you have signed up for a FREE Green Tourism place, monthly webinars will also be held to provide further support.  This includes advice on any of the criteria or sustainability measures you want to implement.

From here, you will be asked to complete an online application form and enter a ‘Campaign Code’ specific to the region to secure your FREE place.
