Burscough officially welcomes newly refurbished Wellbeing & Leisure Hub
Burscough Wellbeing & Leisure Hub celebrated a highly anticipated official launch event on Wednesday (19 March) showcasing the centre’s impressive refurbishment.
The event, which welcomed local schoolchildren, key partners, councillors and community leaders, was held to mark the facility’s £3.3m extensive programme of improvements.
An opening ceremony served as the highlight of the launch event, offering guests an opportunity to view the modern facilities and services the revamped centre is bringing to the community.
They include a new state-of-the-art gym, dedicated spin room including virtual spin and a refreshed sports hall, squash courts and community rooms.
With its focus on promoting health, wellbeing and fitness, the Burscough venue has become a hub of activity for people of all ages and abilities, marking an exciting new chapter for leisure in the Borough.
As part of the launch event, a special panel discussion was hosted, featuring Council Leader Cllr Yvonne Gagen, a former Wales international who played for Everton and Wigan, alongside local professional footballer Stephen Warnock, formerly of Liverpool, Blackburn and Aston Villa who led activities with delighted schoolchildren, providing an inspiring experience for the young attendees.
Guests heard about their sporting journeys, the connection between sports and wellbeing and their reflections on the significance of the refurbishment in supporting community health.
Councillor Carl Coughlan, lead member for Leisure, said: "I’m delighted to see this fantastic facility open and ready to welcome residents once more. I’ve been really impressed by its transformation and the quality of the facilities the community can now access.
“The new hub in Burscough reaffirms our commitment to investing in quality leisure experiences for everyone in the Borough.
"This centre is not just a sports facility; it’s a space that can support our communities to improve their mental and physical health, which is one of our top priorities.
“We are proud to invest in a space that promises to support the community and inspire a healthier, more active lifestyle."
Stephen Warnock added: "It's brilliant to see a place like this open for the community. Sport has always been a huge part of my life and seeing kids get the chance to be active and enjoy themselves here is amazing.”
