A Christmas Message from the Mayor of West Lancashire, Councillor Julian Finch

Christmas is a time of year when we can all be grateful for the good things that we are able to enjoy, at the heart of the Christmas story is the important truth that even when things are hard and difficult, goodness will always come through in the end.

The original Christmas story is one of great joy and celebration, but also of a child who was born in some very difficult circumstances. We celebrate that birth today because we have learned over the centuries that good always comes through in the end. It’s also a time of year to stop and give thanks for the good things that we receive.

And speaking of thanks, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped me so far on my journey as Mayor. From Deputy Mayor, Councillor Anne Fennell and her Deputy Mayoress Councillor Sarah Lawton, to Council officers, my Mayor's Chaplain Rev. Phil Jump, family and friends.Your guidance and support has been crucial in helping me perform my role to the best of my ability. I would particularly like to thank my Mayoress and wife, Mary, who has accompanied me on so many important engagements and tirelessly supported me and the incredible people of this Borough.

My thanks also go to my chosen charities, the E-Rooms and Friends of Little Digmoor, who continue to amaze me with their fantastic work at the heart of our communities here in West Lancashire.

So as we all celebrate Christmas in different ways, I hope that this is a time of real joy and celebration for you all, and, even if things from time to time are a bit difficult, remember that those times will pass and good will always win through.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mayor of West Lancashire, Councillor Julian Finch
