Severe weather update - 03 January 2025

The Met Office has issued an AMBER weather warning for snow across England, including West Lancashire.

It is in place from 9pm Saturday, January 4 until to 11:59pm on Sunday, January 5, snow will reach the south of the warning area later Saturday, then spread north across the rest of the area through Sunday morning.

Snow will be persistent and heavy at times, and will likely drift in brisk easterly winds, especially over higher ground.

Much of the warning area can expect 3-7cm of snow. Areas above about 150m will likely see 15-30cm, with 40cm for ground above 300m, before snow begins to ease and clear by the end of Sunday.

• Rural areas potentially cut off
• Risk of power cuts and mobile network issues
• Up to 40cm of snow in some higher areas

How to Prepare:
• Avoid travel unless absolutely essential; consider safer transport options
• If you must drive, use dipped headlights, accelerate gently and maintain a safe speed
• Be ready for power cuts with torches, batteries and essentials
• Check on vulnerable neighbours and ensure pets are safe and warm
