The Changing Lifestyles Programme (Exercise Referral)

N.B. As of Monday 7th January 2025, all NEW Changing Lifestyles' referrals are temporarily on hold amidst WLBC's current Leisure Centres review.

We hope to hear the outcome of this review by mid-February 2025 and then we can notify you of any Changing Lifestyles' options moving forward.

West Lancashire Borough Council Community Connector & Wellbeing Officers have launched their new pilot programme Changing Lifestyles.

Changing Lifestyles is a predominantly gym-based exercise programme with the potential to introduce swimming into your new regime.

Course Duration: 12 Weeks

Cost: £20 one-off payment

Gym Sessions: 1 to 1 appointments at Week 1 and Week 12, including timetabled, weekday, group, supervised sessions available for the duration of the 12 week course (daytime only).

Venue: Nye Bevan, Skelmersdale WN8 6LT

Membership: Changing Lifestyles' offer, on the completion of the course

Please note, the gym is located on the first floor and unfortunately, there is no lift access.

Referral Information:

GP, Nurse or Health Care Practitioner referrals welcomed.

Criteria:

We accept referrals from Cardiac, Pulmonary & Cancer patients including those clinically at risk of developing these conditions.

This includes the following long term health conditions:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Heart disease
  • Angina
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Long covid
  • Asthma
  • COPD

How do I access the 'Walk this Weigh' scheme? 

Our programme can be accessed by anyone who feels they need to lose weight via a sensible/healthy route.

Two options:

Topics covered include:

  • Fats
  • Sugars
  • Making the right choices
  • Portion size
  • Food labelling
  • Why diets don't work
  • Goal-setting
  • Benefits of physical activity

We are also introducing an Evening Class in Jan 2025.

All new courses starting Spring 2025 are free.

'Let's Make a Difference' Booklet

At West Lancashire Borough Council, we recognise everyone should be able to access healthy, nutritious food every day.  However, we also appreciate that in more challenging times, a little extra support may be necessary.

We have produced the 'Let's Make a Difference' booklet which, is full of useful cooking, shopping, budgeting, fuel money saving advice, ideas and tips to help people provide healthy, affordable meals for themselves and their families, useful links to financial and mental health signposting to support best health and wellbeing.
