What is the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF)?

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) is a government initiative to reduce economic inequalities, boost productivity, and support local communities across the UK. It's part of the government's "Levelling Up" plan to ensure all areas of the country can thrive.

UKSPF Goals

Boosting Productivity:

  • Helping local businesses grow and create jobs by providing funding and support to local businesses through the Business Support Grants Scheme.
  • Providing business support and advice through The NEST, a programme aimed to support businesses and community members with the tools and knowledge to thrive.

Reducing Inequalities:

  • Investing in skills training and education through initiatives such as the Sewing Rooms, The NEST and much more. These programmes are designed to upskill the local workforce and improve employment prospects for residents, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
  • Improving digital connectivity and infrastructure.

Empowering Communities:

  • Supporting local projects and community engagement by launching various community grants and funding programmes to support local initiatives. These projects range from community centers and sports clubs to arts and cultural events, fostering a sense of community and engagement among residents.
  • The Council has undertaken several projects aimed at improving public spaces, such as the redevelopment of parks, green spaces, and town centres. These efforts enhance the area's aesthetic appeal and promote well-being and social interaction among residents.

How is West Lancashire Borough Council Involved?

West Lancashire Borough Council uses UKSPF to support local projects by helping local businesses with funding and support, offering training programmes to improve work skills and improve community spaces such as parks, centres and public spaces.
