Operators - private hire
Important Information
You are advised to read the Council's taxi licensing policy to ensure you are aware of the Council's requirements. However, if you require any additional information before making an appointment, please contact the Licensing Service using the contact details below.
Once you have booked an appointment an application pack will be sent out to you. This pack provides all the necessary forms and information you will need to submit your application. All of the forms must be fully completed and brought with you at the time of your appointment.
Please note: Operators must complete a statutory declaration, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and DVLA check as part of the application process. Based on the results and in accordance with the Council's taxi licensing policy, it may be necessary for you to attend the Council's Licensing & Appeals Committee to determine your application. The Licensing Team will inform you if this is necessary.

Cost of Private Hire Operator Licences
An Operator Licence lasts for 5 years and the cost of depends on the number vehicles used by the business, as detailed below:
- 1-10 vehicles = £205.15
- 11-20 vehicles = £319.13
- 21-30 vehicles = £501.49
- 31-40 vehicles = £638.26
- 41-50 vehicles = £820.62
- Over 50 vehicles = £934.59
The licence fees stated above are comprised of (a) an initial fee and (b) a successful application fee. For ease, the full licence fee can be paid on application. In such cases, the successful application fee (b) would be refunded if your application is refused.
If you wish to pay fee (a) and fee (b) separately, please contact the Licensing Service. Fee (a) should be paid on application and fee (b) should be paid if your licence is granted.
Please note that successful applicants will not be issued with a licence without payment of the fee in full.
